18 juni – Onze eerste “wachtdag” op goede weersomstandigheden om de oversteek naar Spanje te maken. Het voelt heel vreemd aan, want hier is het prima weer, mooie temperatuur, zon en wat wind maar in Biskaye is het niet goed om daar nu te zijn. Wat aan de boot geklust, Farmouth doorkruist, een bezoek gebracht aan het National Maritieme museum en een andere haven bezocht want waar we nu liggen is niet erg geschikt voor een langere periode o.a. omdat de haven bezig is met een renovatieproject. We gaan morgen dan toch maar verkassen naar een haven iets buiten het centrum maar een stuk rustiger.
De langere termijn vooruitzichten zien er op zich niet verkeerd uit. Met een beetje geluk zouden we na het weekend kunnen vertrekken. Maar, zo heeft de ervaring tot dusverre ons geleerd, niets is zo onvoorspelbaar als het weer in deze tijd. We houden jullie op de hoogte.
June 18th – Our first “waiting day” for the right weather window to cross Biscay to Spain. It feels odd though, to wait here while the local weather is great, sunshine, great temperature, wind etc. However, the weather forecast for Biscay is not inviting to sail there now. Therefore we’ve past the time with some small improvements to the boat, visiting the National Maritime museum and looked at another marina because where we are now is not great for a longer stay as the marina is in the process of a renovation project. Tomorrow we will move to the other marina, a bit further out of town but a lot quieter.
The long term forecast doesn’t look bad. With a bit of luck we should be able to leave after the weekend. However, as recent experience has learned us, nothing is so unpredictable as the weather these days. We’ll keep you informed.
